Places to visit

When you go to Edirne, first place you should visit is Selimiye Mosque which is in UNESCO’s “World Heritage List” and this mosque is considered Architect Sinan’s “Masterpiece” and the construction of the mosque took 8 years. Selimiye Mosque has a  fascinating architectural texture in both interior design and exterior cover. The mosque has four minarets and it is located in the city center. Another popular mosque in Edirne is Old Mosque. The mosque was opened to the public in 1914 and it has manuscripts which was written in between 18th and 20th centuries. This mosque has both historical and sentimental values and this a mosque which is worth for a visit.    

2nd Bayezid Complex also can be mentioned as one of the historical place in Edirne. This complex was built in 1488 and Complex of Hospital serves as a Health Museum in modern day. This museum shows 1480’s education and treatment methods also the museum displays the costumes and accessories which was used in 1480’s which is very interesting. Another historical structure in Edirne is Edirne Palace which was enormous in Ottoman Empire era however most of the palace was lost in time and very small remnants of the palace exists in modern day. In the meantime, Edirne hosts Europe’s 3rd biggest and Turkey’s biggest synagogue which is Grand Synagogue of Edirne. This magnificent structure is open for public visits. Another worship place which is open for the public is Bulgarian Church which was built in 1880’s.

After that you can visit Karaağaç Village for breathing clean air. While you are travelling in the village you can visit Karaağaç Train Station which was built in 2nd Abdülhamit era and transferred into Trakya University and you can also visit Lausanne Monument which is next to Karaağaç Train Station.
