How to Obtain a Passport? Required Documents for Passport Application in 2022

Passports are essential IDs required for traveling abroad from our home countries. The IDs we use domestically are often not valid in most other countries. Passports are a must for international travel.

Passport Appointment Procedures

To obtain a passport, you must first schedule an appointment with the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs. You can make your appointment through ALO 189 and the directorate's website.

When scheduling an appointment through the website of the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, you will notice that there are three different types of passports. Although the burgundy passport is usually obtained, it is useful to explain all types:

Ordinary Passport (Burgundy): The burgundy passport is a type that any Turkish citizen of age can obtain. It consists of 38 pages where visas, and entry and exit stamps of countries are affixed.

Service Passport (Gray): This type of passport is issued to government officials who will serve abroad on behalf of the state. It can be issued by special administrations and municipalities.

Special Passport (Green): This passport can be issued to government employees and their relatives under certain conditions.

What Documents Are Needed for a Passport?

There are some documents and forms you need to gather before your appointment date for a passport:

The documents required for an ordinary passport are as follows:

• Turkish ID card, population registration card, or temporary identification document
• One biometric photo taken within the last six months
• Consent form for minors or incapacitated individuals
• Student document required for duty-free passport applications for students
• Receipt showing that the passport book and fee have been paid
• If available, your old passport

The documents required for a special passport are as follows:

• Turkish ID card, population registration card, or temporary identification document
• One biometric photo taken within the last six months
• Special stamped passport application form for working civil servants
• Official letter signed electronically or with a wet signature from the last institution served, for civil servants who have retired or resigned for retirement reasons
• Document indicating status from the Retirement Authority for mayors who have earned retirement with first-degree positions
• Consent form for minors or incapacitated individuals
• Student document for children who will obtain a special stamped passport due to their parents' rights
• Receipt showing that the passport book and fee have been paid
• If available, your old passport

The documents required for a service passport are as follows:

• Turkish ID card, population registration card, or temporary identification document
• One biometric photo taken within the last six months
• Service stamped passport application form
• Approval of duty for non-public officers, along with the application form
• Document indicating status from the Retirement Authority for mayors who have earned retirement with first-degree positions
• Consent form for minors or incapacitated individuals
• Student document for children who will obtain a special stamped passport due to their parents' rights
• Receipt showing that the passport book and fee have been paid
• If available, your old passport

Passport Fees

Passport fees are renewed every year. Citizens applying for a passport in 2022 can consider the following fee schedule. Students pay only the booklet fee. Students over the age of 25 are subject to only the passport fee and booklet fee.

After paying the fee, passports are delivered to provincial centers within 3 business days, district centers within 4 business days, and villages within 7 business days. The mentioned delivery times may vary depending on the courier situation.
